Dr. Scott Anderson

Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners

A graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, he completed his internship and surgical residency with our surgical department. He successfully completed the ACVS exam to become a Diplomate (Board Certified Surgeon) of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). He followed that by successfully becoming a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and later becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care. He is currently the only veterinarian in the United States credentialed in all 3 of these specialties. He has published numerous articles in journals, as well as lectured at local, national, and international conferences. Currently, he is serving his fourth term as president of the Westside chapter of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association. His professional interests include orthopedic, neurologic, and oncologic surgery.

Dr. Phillip J. Gill

Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons

A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, he completed his internship and surgical residency with our surgical department. He then successfully completed the ACVS exam to become a Diplomate (Board Certified Surgeon) of the ACVS. He has published articles on shoulder surgery as well as disk disease. His professional interests include joint replacement surgery.

Dr. Mary Somerville

Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons

A graduate of the U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, she served as Director of the Emergency Pet Clinic of South Bay, performing emergency medical and critical care for three years. After completing her internship and surgical residency with our surgical department, she successfully completed the ACVS exam to become a Diplomate (Board Certified Surgeon) of the ACVS. She has published articles on disk disease and paraphimosis, as well as authored several chapters in the textbook Clinical Veterinary Advisor. Currently, she is the managing editor and author of surgery articles in PULSE magazine. Her professional interests include soft tissue, orthopedic, and oncologic surgery.

Dr. Raviv Balfour

Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons

A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, he completed his internship with our surgical department. After completing a surgical residency at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine/Angell Memorial Animal Hospital he successfully completed the ACVS exam to become a Diplomate (Board Certified Surgeon) of the ACVS. He has published an article on angular limb deformities, as well as authored several chapters in the textbooks Clinical Veterinary Advisor and Ettinger’s Textbook of Internal Medicine. Additional publications include frequent articles for PULSE magazine. His professional interests include orthopedic, neurologic, and minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Dan Polidoro

Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons

A graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, he completed his internship with our surgical department, and then spent several years in private practice. After private practice, he worked for an international biotechnology company, developing biomaterials for use in human and veterinary surgery. He rejoined our group and completed his surgical residency with our surgical department and he successfully completed the ACVS exam to become a Diplomate (Board Certified Surgeon) of the ACVS. He has published an article on Helicobacter in ferrets, as well as authored a chapter in the textbook Clinical Veterinary Advisor. His professional interests include orthopedic surgery and stem cell procedures.

Dr. Eric Chow

Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons

A graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, he completed his rotating internship at University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing his surgical internship and surgical residency with our surgical department, he successfully completed the ACVS exam to become a Diplomate (Board Certified Surgeon) of the ACVS. He has published articles on prostatic cysts, tarsal arthrodesis and ear surgery in rabbits. His professional interests include orthopedic, soft tissue, and neurologic surgery.

Dr. James Kim

Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons

A graduate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, he completed a rotating internship with our hospital, followed by a surgical internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, Texas. After completing a three year residency at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, he successfully completed the ACVS exam to become a Diplomate (Board Certified Surgeon) of the ACVS. His professional interests include minimally invasive procedures in both orthopedic and soft tissue diseases.

Dr. Christina Boekhout

Surgical Resident

A graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, she completed a rotating internship at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta, Georgia.  She completed her surgical internship at our hospital and is now our current surgical resident.  Her professional interests include orthopedic, oncologic, and minimally invasive surgery.
