Our surgical group has been in business nearly 30 years. ASEC's Department of Emergency and Critical Care (formerly the Animal Emergency Facility, Inc.) has been in business since 1980, with more veterinary hospitals referring their after-hours emergency cases to our Center than to all other Westside emergency facilities combined.

ASEC boasts the latest state-of-the-art surgical equipment for orthopedic, neurologic, soft tissue and thoracic surgery: including video laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and arthroscopy, helical CT scanner, digital radiology and fluoroscopy, ultrasonography, intraoperative C-arm fluoroscopy, ECG telemetry, and much, much more.

The surgeons routinely perform such procedures as total hip joint replacement, arthroscopy, TPLO (tibial plateau leveling osteotomy), hemilaminectomy for intervertebral disc rupture, spinal fracture repair, thoracic surgery such as lung lobectomy or thoracoscopic pericardiectomy, and a full range of soft tissue, abdominal, and oncologic (cancer) surgery.

ASEC's Department of Surgery is the largest surgical group in the region; so, multiple surgeons can immediately confer and discuss the management of complex cases. In addition, with multiple surgeons present each day, we are able to admit surgical emergencies at any time, for immediate attention.

ASEC will have a fully equipped laboratory with hematology, serum chemistry, blood gas analyzer, and other instrumentation. Our blood bank is equipped with red blood cells and plasma on-hand for emergency transfusions.

ASEC's Emergency Department is equipped to handle any & all types of emergencies including trauma (i.e. hit by car), bite wound injuries, respiratory impairment, cardiac disease, gastrointestinal emergencies, endocrine disorders, and ophthalmologic conditions: not only for dogs and cats, but also for avian, exotic species, rabbits, and small mammals ("pocket pets").

ASEC's ICU (Intensive Care Unit) provides the maximum level of care for critically ill pets. Referring veterinary hospitals may transfer pets to our ICU for overnight or around-the-clock doctor and nurse care, to be transferred back to the referring veterinarian once the patient is stable. ASEC will also have telemedicine linkage to other specialists in radiology, cardiology, internal medicine, et cetera.

The surgeons and ICU/emergency doctors are available at all times to provide telephone consultations to referring veterinarians.
